Nene Park Academy is the World Class School of the month for June 2023, having successfully been accredited with the World Class Schools Quality Mark with outstanding evidence. Nene Park has also completed an impressive refurbishment of their Sixth form centre, which is an excellent enhancement for their students’ learning environment.

Raising aspirations: Nene Park Academy’s newly refurbished Sixth form Centre – Meridian Trust

Nene Park Academy is an educational community whose philosophy embraces the challenges of academic excellence, responsibility and leadership, spiritual awareness, and participation in a wide variety of activities. At Nene Park Academy we quite simply strive to know and support every student to enjoy their learning and be the absolute best versions of themselves. We are committed to developing students reading, writing and oracy skills; we want to remove barriers to speaking, listening, reading and writing as quickly as possible so students can access, enjoy, and achieve their full potential at school.

Academic excellence is important, but the values that go with the achievement of the students are critical in ensuring that our students are well prepared for the challenges which await them beyond the school gates. At NPA, students explore their identity and strengths, and find the expertise that helps them to transform individual talents into accomplishments – accomplishments which will make them valued and respected in an increasingly complex world.

Nene Park Academy moved into new and remodelled school buildings across a two phased development beginning in 2012 and finishing 2013. This was then added to with a new wing in 2018, to increase its capacity, due to the Academy growing in popularity and success. In addition to this we have recently completed an extension to our Sixth Form Centre so that our Sixth Form facilities match the aspirations and high expectations of our students at post-16. They have been described as ‘World Class’, which is fitting, given that we have achieved World Class School Status in January 2023, which we are very proud of.

Results continue to rise year on year reflecting the impact of the wholesale changes that has transformed education on this site. In April 2018, Ofsted judged the school to be ‘Good’. As a result of this continued improvement and the recent GCSE results of our students returning a positive Progress 8 score of +0.11, and the A Level results of our students being regularly in the top 25% of schools nationally, our academy is now oversubscribed, with 98% of students securing a place with us, putting us as their first choice. It is our intention to be the academy of choice for our community and Peterborough, and whilst we are well on the way to achieving this, we are always looking for the next team member who can bring that little bit extra and help us to capitalise on the next improvement opportunity.

Our Pastoral system is based on a very successful House and vertical tutoring approach. We believe that our task as teachers is to develop students’ full potential, both inside and outside of the classroom. We encourage them to work hard at their studies and join in the extensive range of extra-curricular opportunities provided by dedicated staff. We aspire that every student is properly known, valued, and supported.

Our staff are hardworking and supportive. We thrive on new challenges, and we work closely together to ensure our students feel happy and safe; our experience tells us that young people work most successfully in a school community that is caring and friendly, yet firm and clear in its expectations and standards.

Alongside the educational impact of partnerships, the school has developed unique community partnerships including one with Peterborough United Football Club, with the school now hosting the first teams training ground as well as the Posh Youth Academy, who all attend the school for their formal education. There is also a very successful Education with Football programme for Post 16 students who are able to study an academic curriculum alongside an enhanced competitive football programme that allows them to train and represent the academy and Peterborough United Foundation against local and national football teams such as West Brom, Chelsea, Watford and Derby to name a few. The girls squad are double EFL champions, with one of the past squad members securing a university soccer scholarship to North Carolina.
