Visit to Oxford

Our #worldclass essay competition winners had the pleasure of meeting the #worldclass writer Dr Robert Douglas-Fairhurst, author of,  most recently,  ‘Metamorphosis’, at the Oxford college, at which he is the Director of Studies for English Literature, Magdalen.

Students from The Morley Academy, Alexandra Park School, Five Acres High School, Tolworth Girls’ School, Sandringham School, King Ecgbert School, Hungerhill School, Weatherhead High School, Berkeley Academy, Forest Gate Community School and The Ruth Gorse Academy were treated to tea, biscuits and a chat with Robert, and a tour around the college with the college’s senior outreach and access officer. We are very proud of our winning writers from both #worldclass  primary and secondary schools  who produced essays on the subject of ‘Friendship’ to an undergraduate standard, and extremely grateful to Robert who has worked tirelessly with WCSQM on widening participation and improving access.

Secondary winner – Zaara Arif, Year 10, Forest Gate Community School, with Dr Robert Douglas-Fairhurst. ‘Zaara had a wonderful time meeting Robert Douglas Fairhurst, the tour of the college was the highlight of the trip,’ (Zaara’s mum!).
Honourable mention – Alan Shybu, Year 10, The Ruth Gorse Academy
