WCSQM awards a quality mark to non-selective state schools that offer the best education to young people in the UK. Unlike other national assessment bodies, we assess the student and not the school, against a framework of skills and competencies young people need to flourish in an emerging global economy. Through unique real-life work experiences, access to a lifelong peer support network and cultural opportunities that take them beyond their local community, we give world class students the confidence to overcome socio-economic barriers to recognise and achieve their potential.

I am happy to join my hon. friend in congratulating the whole team at Morley Academy on receiving the World Class Schools award, which I think shows the work that the GORSE Academies Trust is doing to drive up excellence and improve outcomes for pupils.

The World Class Schools Quality Mark

Many of the best schools in England have moved beyond their Ofsted judgement. They have developed students’ skills, competencies, character and personal qualities to such an extent that their students rival those from the best schools internationally. Ofsted measures what the school does to develop the students. The World Class Schools Quality Mark goes one step further and assesses whether this has worked. Schools that become part of the World Class network are exceptional in that their students are World Class wherever you put them.

These schools need recognition. Parents want to know which schools in the country ensure that their children reach their full potential; universities want to know which schools are most successful at preparing students to excel in higher education; businesses want to know which schools are developing the brightest potential employees. The World Class Schools Quality Mark provides parents, universities and businesses with what they want to know, and enhances England’s internationally esteemed reputation for education.

These schools provide the best for their students. Once World Class, schools in the network work together to give opportunities to their students regionally, nationally and internationally that they could not offer in isolation.
