Lymm High School is a large, 11-18 mixed comprehensive school in beautiful surroundings, with our own leisure centre and a residential centre in Anglesey. Our most recent Ofsted report captured our spirit very well when it said:

“This is a school where everyone is accepted for their individuality and uniqueness. It is a school that aims to ensure that inclusivity and scholastic ambition intertwine seamlessly”

In short, we love every single one of our students and, for this reason, we expect a great deal of them academically and socially.

Our philosophy is a very straightforward one. We focus relentlessly on getting the basics right in pursuit of three simple objectives: ensuring excellent academic outcomes for all students; encouraging participation in a wide range of extra-curricular activities; and developing socially responsible citizens.

Academic standards are very high and outcomes have risen significantly in recent years; for example, in 2019, over 90% of students gained 9-4 grades and 70% grades 9-5 in English and Maths. Alongside this, we have a remarkable programme of extra-curricular activities, with typically 80 clubs available for students to join at any one time. We also run around 90 trips and visits every year, including links with schools in China, South Africa, France, Germany and Spain.

Lymm High School students celebrated their accreditation at the WCSQM Awards Ceremony in December 2021

As we are fond of saying to the students though, none of this matters if they do not leave us as decent, socially responsible members of their community. Behaviour is excellent and we use our well-established Hall system to encourage good work in the local area – to give just one example, we usually raise over £15,000 every year for local charities.

The Lymm High string group performed for over 500 guests at the WCSQM Awards Ceremony at the Sheldonian Theatre in 2021
