A World Class student visit to Reed Smith law offices in London
On 14th September 2022 twelve World Class students were invited for a tour of the London offices of the multinational law firm Reed Smith, to learn more about career options in the legal sector.
The students, all in Years 10-13 and either studying or considering Law as a further education subject, came from World Class accredited schools across the UK to learn first-hand what it means to work in the Legal sector, the various career options available and the day to day roles and responsibilities of the different business services across the firm.
The Reed Smith team arranged an immersive and engaging agenda for the day, including an interactive quiz, a presentation on the various roles at Reed Smith, a speed networking session with the different business services at the firm, an overview of the organisation’s pro bono work and responsible business strategy, and a graduate recruitment session explaining the various routes into Law.
“This full day of information has helped me see how broad Law is, and gave me the opportunity to ask lots of questions.” Lucy, Year 11, The Holy Cross School
“I enjoyed having the opportunity to speak with people who have different experiences and backgrounds in the field I’m interested in. It was nice to meet other students of different ages and cultures, and I loved the group activities. The open discussions were very informative.” Isabel, Year 13, The Holy Cross School
“I enjoyed learning about the different routes to become a lawyer, getting to talk to the lawyers and trainees and finding out more about pro bono and extra work you can do outside of the office.” Leila, Year 12, Ivybridge Community College
The visit was kindly hosted by a team of Associates at Reed Smith who have previously partnered with WCSQM to support our Student Character Campaign, in recognition of the importance World Class characteristics play in helping students to identify, apply for and secure further education and employment opportunities that allow them to reach their potential. Reed Smith have an active and effective graduate recruitment and career development program, and as part of their equal opportunities and inclusion policy generously covered travel expenses and provided lunch for students and their accompanying adults on the day.
“It was a very informative and inspiring day. A lot of my questions were answered and it was important for my daughter to learn more about how a law firm works. She is very excited about her work future, and spending a day here will definitely help her work towards her goals.”
“Overall I was delighted at how well the event went and the students (and parents) were very engaged throughout the whole event! Great calibre of students.” Carole Mehigan, Reed Smith
On behalf of all our World Class students and schools we’d like to thank Reed Smith for hosting the day, and for their ongoing support to help young people access World Class careers opportunities. Visit the Reed Smith website for more information on the firm and their graduate recruitment program.
